Exploring California: Mt Tamalpais East Peak
What is Mt. Tamalpais / Mt. Tam? Where is it located?
It’s a state park north of San Francisco, around a 45 min drive away. There are several different hiking trails on Mt. Tam and a lot of great view points. You can see downtown San Francisco Mt. Tam, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, and many other Northern California sights.
East Peak is the top of Mt. Tam; it’s known for being one of the best spots for sunsets and an has an epic view of mountains, bridges, and the city. There’s a parking lot, public bathrooms, and water fountains at East Peak. To get to the top, it’s a 0.3 mile hike from the parking lot. There’s an 8 USD parking fee at this point.
How did we get there?
We took a Zipcar from San Francisco to the top. By car is probably the best way to enjoy Mt. Tam unless you’re a mountain biker.
